Ewan Currie presented the first community benefit cheque on 16 June 2006 to chairman Ross Balharry and vice-chairman Duncan Leece, of Whitehills & District Community council.
Economic Benefits for Local Communities
In order to provide community benefits, Falck Renewables has a policy of establishing a wind farm trust fund, to enable support to be given to:
- Initiatives to promote sustainable local site development and tourism
- Environmental education initiatives
- Local recreation infrastructure such as improvements to existing community infrastructure like bridleways, footpaths, new cycleways, playgrounds and permissive paths; and
- Other community- led projects.
For instance, Boyndie Wind Energy Limited agreed to pay £14,000 per year into a community fund for
projects in Whitehills and District.
The Cefn Croes Wind Farm Community Trust Fund provides grants for a wide range of community initiated events. The Ponterwyd Annual Country Fete is one such example.
