Minervino Murge landscape
The wind farm, which will be built entirely on land owned by private landlords, is secured by registered contracts with the land owners. The economical terms of the agreements are for 9 years with the right to extend them for another 18 years.
The Project Company signed an agreement with the Minervino Murge municipality on 27 December 2002 that provides the municipality with a royalty equal to 2.15% of energy gross revenues and 0.9% on the sale of the green certificates (excl. VAT).
Falck Renewables’ policy is to use local contractors for construction and maintenance wherever possible. Wind energy developments represent an important form of economic diversification in agricultural economies and rural communities. Wind projects can provide landowners an additional stable income during the life of the wind turbines.
Environmental benefits from wind farms are quite clear. It is estimated that the wind farm could displace up to 75,000 tones of carbon dioxide each year which would otherwise have been produced by a power station burning fossil fuel.
In this way wind energy is able to make an important contribution to reducing global warming and achieving the goals of the Kyoto Protocol.
