Skye festival gets backing from Highland wind farm
A local festival celebrating the heritage and culture of Western Skye has been given a cash boost by wind farm developers with sponsorship worth £5,400.
Inverness-based Falck Renewables have teamed up with other companies involved in the construction of the wind farm at Ben Aketil, near Dunvegan, to help fund the first ever DunCelt Festival. Their donation will contribute to the cost of the three month season of events and workshops organised by Dunvegan Community Council as part of Highland 2007.
Alasdair MacPherson, project manager at Ben Aketil wind farm, said: “We’re really glad to be involved in such an exciting project – and I’d like to give a big thanks to RDC Scotland, Morrison Construction and Hydro Contracting for helping us to support the festival. It’s going to be fantastic for the local economy and hopefully it will give both locals and tourists a chance to take part in some really fun – and unusual – activities.”
The 10 turbine wind farm at Ben Aketil is due for completion by the end of the year. When it’s fully operational it will provide enough clean, green energy to power over 14,000 households, roughly equivalent to almost all the residents of Skye.
