Kilbraur turbine transport
The initial phase of civil engineering work to improve the site access across both private and public land has been completed by Tulloch Civil Engineering Ltd. The remainder of the civil engineering work to construct the wind farm access tracks and turbine bases commenced during May of this year. The works which are being undertaken by civil engineering contractor R J McLeod Ltd are currently on schedule for completion in early 2008. The new 275 kV substation being constructed by Scottish Hydro Electric transmission Ltd within the wind farm was completed and energized on 20 Dec 2007. The sub station will utilize one large 90 MVA transformer which is presently being manufactured in Italy. The sub station which was built directly adjacent to the existing Beauly-Dounreay 275 kV transmission line will connect the wind farm electrical output to the national grid. The turbines will be built and installed by German company Nordex AG (http://www.nordex-online.com/en/), one of the world’s leading turbine suppliers. The large turbine components (blades, towers and nacelles) are to be delivered to site via the port of Invergordon. Production of the turbine components is on schedule for site delivery to commence during October 2007.
