Kilbraur Wind Farm Update April 2007
Background
Construction of the Kilbraur Wind Farm in Strath Brora started in October 2006. The wind farm should be up and running by August 2008.
On completion, the wind farm will have 19 turbines. When operating at full capacity it will generate enough clean, green electricity to supply around 27,000 homes.
The wind farm is owned and will be operated by Falck Renewables.
The first stage of the project - improvements to existing roads in Ben Bhraggie Woods and Dunrobin Glen – is now almost complete and work is underway on new access tracks on the wind farm site. Les Taylor Construction (Northern) Ltd began construction of the electricity substation on behalf of Scottish and Southern Energy at the beginning of April.
Work to repair the land slip which affected the public road in Dunrobin Glen is complete and the road has re-opened although some patching work is still ongoing. We’d like to thank local people for their patience while these works have been carried out.
Traffic Management
One of the most important aspects of the construction phase is managing traffic so that disruption is kept to a minimum. Construction will mean additional vehicles on local roads but we have taken steps to keep the numbers as low as possible. For example, where quality permits, aggregate for track construction and concrete is being taken from borrow pits on site and won’t need to be transported by road.
We also have measures in place to ensure that heavy lorries will travel to the site via the newly constructed access route through Ben Bhraggie Woods and the Dunrobin Glen.
Turbines are due to be delivered to the site in October and November. They will be delivered to Invergordon by sea and then transported via the A9. Lorries will leave the A9 at Drummuie and will not travel through Golspie or Rogart.
How to contact us
We have set up a Liaison Group to make sure you know what’s going on during the construction period. The Group is made up of members of Golspie, Brora and Rogart community councils and representatives from the construction team. It meets on a regular basis to discuss any construction related issues.
If you would like to speak to anyone about the wind farm please contact Euan Fraser of Falck Renewables on 01463 861303 or 07738 586345.
