The wind farm, which will be built entirely on land owned by the two municipalities, is secured by two definitive land agreements signed between the Project Company and Alà dei Sardi and Buddusò municipalities.
The host municipality has agreed to lease the land for 25 years starting from the date of the definitive agreements. The Project Company will receive building leases for all of the wind turbine positions and the right of way for roads and cables.
On the date of the signature of the definitive agreement the Project Company is required to pay the municipalities € 2,500 per wind turbine for building leases and rights of way. In the first year of operation the Project Company will pay the municipalities € 5,000 per wind turbine installed. From the second year onward the municipalities can choose alternatively to receive a fixed income equal to € 8,000 for each wind turbine installed or to be entitled to 3% of the energy and green certificates gross revenues (excl. VAT).
The development of Alà dei Sardi and Buddusò represents a significant financial investment. There will be opportunities for local businesses and their employees to benefit from this investment. Falck Renewables’ policy is to use local contractors for construction and maintenance wherever possible. Wind energy developments represent an important form of economic diversification in agricultural economies and rural communities. Wind projects can provide landowners an additional stable income during the life of the wind turbines.
Environmental benefits from wind farms are quite clear. Electricity produced by wind energy displaces a unit of electricity which would otherwise have been produced from a power station burning fossil fuels. In this way wind energy is able to make an important contribution to reducing global warming.
