The Cushnie site in the Aberdeenshire Council area was identified as a potential wind farm site by Cushnie Wind Energy Ltd (CWE) following an extensive review of possible locations throughout England and Scotland. CWE is a joint venture between RDC Scotland Ltd (RDC) and Falck Renewables. The Cushnie site is located approximately 47 km west of Aberdeen, and approximately 12 km north of the town of Aboyne. The farm would consist of a maximum of 7 turbines.
The wind farm site occurs between Cromar and the Lumsden Valley, west of the A980, south of the A944, north of the B9119, and east of the A97 roadways. The Cushnie site area is approximately 630ha, consisting of a ridge extending roughly north-west to south east, and lower forestry ground. The highest point on the site is Cairn Pressendye, approximately 619 m AOD at the southern end of the ridge. At present, the land is mainly used for commercial forestry. There are no occupied dwellings on the site.
