Partnership to unlock floating wind potential in Scotland

We joined forces with Ørsted and BlueFloat Energy to develop floating offshore wind projects in Scotland in response to the recent ScotWind leasing round. Our consortium is well placed to deliver world-class floating offshore projects in Scotland. We bring together:

Our proposals maximise the value of offshore wind to Scotland:

1. We intend to include genuine community involvement and ownership for the first time ever in an offshore wind development.

We are currently undertaking a consultation exercise in partnership with community ownership experts Energy4All to investigate the options for Scottish communities to benefit from offshore wind.

2. We are fully committed to developing the local supply chain and creating jobs in Scotland

We aim to spend up to £2.63 billion within the Scottish supply chain over the period of the project.

Our proposed design is based on reinforced concrete structures which are straightforward to construct by a large local workforce.

3. We plan to work with local and national agencies to train and upskill the workforce by formulating specific enterprise and skill development programmes

We are working with Energy Skills Partnership (ESP) to upskill and re-skill the existing work force and promote the industry via education programmes, STEM projects and funding.

New projects are under discussion with ESP for improving and developing areas such as advanced manufacturing and hydrogen related studies which would assist future projects and provide more employment and capabilities in Scotland.

4. Our floating wind bids are a unique opportunity for Scotland to become a global technology and manufacturing hub

We are working with organisations such as the Scottish Council for Development and Industry, Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Scottish Enterprise to address existing gaps in capacity, resources and capability to develop a sustainable Scottish supply chain with the expertise to be world leaders in floating wind technology. 5. Our project proposals are fully developed and we are ready to go

We have comprehensively mapped out the project supply chain which involved identifying future suppliers. We have also engaged directly with the Scottish supply chain through potential key suppliers and agencies and bodies supporting the Scottish supply chain which has allowed us to pressure test our understanding, secure firm commitments and gain assurance on the capabilities of a range of sectors and suppliers to deliver components and services to the project.

6. Our team has the skills and experience to deliver large scale floating projects

Since pioneering the first ever offshore wind farm in 1991, Ørsted has developed and built more offshore wind projects than any other company in the world. Combining this unparalleled track record with BlueFloat Energy’s unique knowledge and experience in developing, financing and executing floating wind projects and Falck Renewables’ track record in global project development and community engagement in Scotland in particular, the consortium is well placed to deliver world-class floating offshore projects.
